One-on-one or in-depth interviews are most effective for testing the usability of web-based applications and sites.  They  allow respondents to navigate through and discuss their reactions to the site at their own speed based on their individual skill level and required needs.  The interviews usually last between 30 and 60 minutes depending on study objectives, and are conducted at Shugoll Research's onsite usability lab or other usability labs across the country.  Onsite usability equipment includes PCs, a one-way mirror for client observation, client monitors and picture-in-picture video taping.

Software Applications

As part of our in-person webs usability lab testing, Shugoll Research offers access to two licensed software products: Bailey’s Usability Testing Environment (UTE) and Morae.

Bailey’s UTE allows for a standard and consistent presentation of each scenario or task that eliminates interviewer bias.  Respondents individually complete each task through an automated program.  The program collects quantitative performance metrics including percentage completion, time taken to complete each task, number of clicks to complete each task, etc.
The Morae Usability Testing software records the user experience using picture-in- picture videotaping.  Video recording of each user allows for the creation of a highlights video and/or video clips to be inserted into a report or presentation.
